Why I shifted my focus for the clients I work with

I talk a lot about making intentional choices around where you direct your energy in order to move towards living a values‑based life. Once you figure out what your values are—what’s important to you, what you actually care about—you can start directing your energy toward those things.

I’ve recently made a shift in my client focus so my energy is more aligned with my values.

My main specialty is trauma recovery after spiritual abuse. While this is already a relatively niche area that not many mental health professionals specialize in, I’ve chosen to narrow my focus even further under this umbrella.

Women in high‑control religious spaces suffer in a unique way because these systems rely heavily on patriarchy to maintain control. These spaces actively use God and the Bible to protect the authority and privilege of men. This ultimately benefits no one—but it very specifically harms women.

Within these spaces, there is a particular group of women who suffer in an especially acute way. These are the women I want to work with.

1. The ambitious women

These are the women who don’t fit neatly into the prescribed gender role of caregiver and nurturer. They may want to get married and maybe even have children, but they don’t want wife and mother to be their whole identity—or even their primary identity.

These women want to level up their careers and are suffering under the crushing reality of wanting things the high‑control religious space never wanted them to want.

2. The artistic women

These women see things and feel things that high‑control religious spaces do not want them to see or feel. More than that, many of them are gifted at translating those experiences into stories, paintings, poetry, film, or performance.

They were misunderstood within high‑control religious spaces, yes—but they are often misunderstood by wider society as well. Their deep connection to intuition caused them to feel stifled in a unique way in these environments because they could sense the misalignment, the hypocrisy, and the harm early and acutely.

They are stepping into their power by creating beautiful, raw things and putting them into the world. They are processing their trauma through art. And they are helping others finally put words to what they, too, have experienced.

I love working with these women because this is my story, too. I had to look long and hard to give myself the support I needed after leaving high-control religion. And I love seeing artistic, ambitious women step into their power after the patriarchy told them there was something wrong with them because they didn’t “fit.” It’s the biggest F-U to the patriarchy and I love what I do!

If you are an ambitious or artistic woman (and/or both!) navigating the trauma from high-control religion and the impact of the patriarchy, this is the work I do. I invite you to reach out for a free 20 minute consultation using the link below.
