“For I am the Lord your God who upholds your right hand, who says to you, “Do not fear, I will help you.”
“Do not fear, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel, I will help you,” declares the Lord.
Isaiah 41:13, 14
I giggled when I read this. God calls Jacob a worm. As if to say, “You’re such a little worm, and you think I won’t help you?”
I’m such a little worm, to worry about how the Lord will help me. And no sooner has He finished helping me with one thing, then I begin worrying about the next thing. The words “thank you” are barely out of my mouth before I start saying, “help me!” again.
I think it helps to acknowledge the source of our provision. It helps to have God give you encouragement.
And it helps, every now and then, to acknowledge our worminess.
